Tis’ the Season

It finally snowed today (hooray!), after being up over 65F yesterday (that’s Colorado for you!). The snow just puts me into the holiday mood and makes me crave hot apple cider, holiday music and curling up in front of a fireplace with a good book.

In the past I’d hit the stores and come home with bundles and bags galore, but not this year. And not because of the economy, recession or being unemployed either – but because I have finally (I hope) sworn off those darned credit cards. I got myself into so much trouble with those darned things in the past and it would be so easy to grab one and just head out and shop til I drop. However now that I know the joy of being virtually debt free, its keeping me from acting on that old impulse this year.

I also remind myself that I don’t need a new pair of shoes (I have plenty), or that cute sweater (I got a ton of those too). If nothing else I do at least have some things to show for all the debt I’d amassed (all the clothes in my closets, furniture, dishes, pretty much nearly everything I own). So now I need to just sit back and enjoy owning it all outright and not get into the mode of wanting to buy more or replace what I have.

Instead I can enjoy the season at home, among friends, or making the occasional (no more than twice a week!) trip to starbucks and getting a holiday flavored latte.

Happy Holidays everyone!
