As years go, 2010 was a pretty good year. I signed a long-term client in April, allowing me to divest myself from the unemployment shackles and return to the freedoms of self-employment. 2010 I also had a lot fewer health issues as well. My gall bladder seems to be doing OK, I did not sprain my ankle again, or catch any pandemic-level illnesses (unless you count the nasty common cold I had at the end of the year). Dave and I adopted a puppy named Joey in 2010, and he’s been (mostly) a joy.
We’ve enjoyed a lot of travel in 2010 as well – early in the year we returned from a great trip to Puerto Rico. In August we went to Chicago and had perfect weather the entire trip. I was there for my 20th reunion and reconnect with some old friends, as well as to visit with family I have in the area. We stayed in a really nice condo on the lakefront for the trip, which helped make the trip a lot more fun. In September we did a weekend road trip to meet and pick-up Joey who was at a dog rescue near Telluride, Colorado. Following that we flew to Northwest Montana for a few days to enjoy Glacier National Park for Dave’s birthday (Joey got to meet his Uncle Justin and Aunt Kristen who took care of him). In December we had another road trip with Joey up to Montana for Christmas. Joey is really good in long car rides despite how bored he must get cooped up for the long hours.
All in all, I’d say 2010 was a pretty decent year. Here’s hoping 2011 is even better!
What I’m hoping to accomplish in 2011 (call them resolutions if you will):
- Improve my health and fitness
- Sign a 2nd long-term client, and remain an independent consultant (or alternatively, get a kick-ass job offer to lead a web analytics team while still working from home).
- Save up enough cash to go 50/50 with Dave on a new Subaru Outback (aka Puppy-mobile).
Happy New Year everyone! Comment below on what you would like to accomplish in 2011!!
